The joint king is a 12mm thick mortar board that matches the cross-section of each curb stone. (There is also a part that is 8mm thick.) It is adhered to the curb stone with concrete bond. This allows for the traditional two-step process of curb installation and joint filling to be completed in one step, finishing the joint at the same time as the curb installation, resulting in various benefits such as "shortened construction time, labor saving, and cost reduction." There is no risk of poor filling, making it ideal for stone-like blocks and similar applications. There is no need for cleaning, washing, or curing of the joint area, and the joint filling is completed each time green stone blocks are installed.
